In the production of spiral welded pipes, steel strip is twisted at a right angle, coiled along a spiral path, and the joint is welded both inside and outside using vacuum-shielded welding. The product is widely used in the construction of main oil and gas pipelines, general-purpose pipelines, district heating networks and sewerage systems. The spiral seam distributes stress evenly along the pipe, making large-diameter sections economical to produce from relatively narrow strip stock.
